Hexiang beads need a little more care than a typical stone, glass, or metal bracelet.
Because they are made from blended aromatic materials that are shaped and dried into beads, too much water, heat, friction, or contact with chemicals can affect their surface, structure, and scent.
The good news?
Caring for them is pretty simple.
If you remember just three things, you are already doing most of it right:
Keep them dry. Avoid high heat. Store them carefully when you are not wearing them.
Here is what to know.
Can Hexiang Beads Get Wet?
It is best to keep them as dry as possible.
A few accidental drops are usually very different from soaking the entire bracelet, but repeated exposure to water may soften the surface or affect the structure of the beads.
For everyday wear, we recommend taking your bracelet off before:
- Showering or bathing
- Swimming
- Washing dishes
- Heavy workouts
- Using household cleaners
- Spending a long time in heavy rain
You may also want to remove it before washing your hands if water is likely to
What Should I Do If My Bracelet Gets Wet?
First: don’t try to dry it with heat.
If the beads accidentally get wet, gentle drying is the safest approach.
1. Blot Away the Moisture
Use a clean tissue or soft cotton cloth and gently press against the wet areas.
Do not scrub or rub the beads.
When the surface is damp, it may be more vulnerable to friction.
2. Let It Air-Dry
Place the bracelet somewhere cool, dry, and well ventilated.
Keep it away from direct sunlight, hair dryers, heaters, or other sources of strong heat.
Then give it time.
Depending on how wet the bracelet became and the humidity around you, drying may take a day or longer.
3. Wait Until It Is Completely Dry Before Wearing It Again
Once the beads feel fully dry, check them for any obvious changes in shape, texture, or cracking.
Do not rush to wear or store the bracelet while there may still be moisture inside.
What Should I Avoid When Drying Hexiang Beads?
Skip the shortcuts.
Avoid:
- Hair dryers
- Direct sunlight
- Radiators
- Space heaters
- Hot cars
- Aggressive rubbing
Heat can dry the outside of a bead much faster than the inside, which may put unnecessary stress on the material.
Slow and gentle is better.
What If a Hexiang Bead Cracks?
Not every crack means the bracelet is ruined.
What matters is how deep the crack is and whether the bead is still structurally stable.
Small Surface Lines
If you notice a very fine line but the bead is still firm and intact, avoid picking at it or trying DIY repairs.
Keep the bracelet dry and try to reduce pressure on that bead.
We also do not recommend automatically adding:
- Water
- Oil
- Essential oil
- Perfume
- Glue
Different Hexiang formulas can behave differently, and adding another substance may affect the color, texture, or scent.
A Deeper Crack
If the opening is more noticeable but the bead is still holding together, wear the bracelet more carefully.
Avoid:
- Stretching it unnecessarily
- Wearing it during exercise
- Knocking it against hard surfaces
- Sudden changes in heat or humidity
If you are unsure whether the bead can be repaired, contacting the maker or seller is usually the safest option.
A Broken or Crumbling Bead
If the bead is breaking apart or shedding material, it is usually better to stop wearing it.
Replacement may be more practical than trying to hold a badly damaged bead together.
And if you still enjoy its scent, you do not necessarily have to throw it away.
You can keep the broken bead separately in a clean, dry container and enjoy it as a small fragrance object.
Why Can Hexiang Beads Crack?
Cracks can happen for a few different reasons.
One possible cause is uneven moisture loss.
If the outside dries much faster than the inside, different parts of the bead may contract at different rates.
Other factors can include:
- Very dry conditions
- Repeated water exposure
- Sudden temperature changes
- Impact or pressure
- Improper storage
- Differences in materials or craftsmanship
The best prevention is simple: avoid soaking, strong heat, and unnecessary impact.
How Should I Store Hexiang Beads?
When you are not wearing your bracelet, keep it somewhere clean and dry.
Good options include:
- Its original storage box
- A clean pouch
- A small closed container
Before storing it, make sure the bracelet is fully dry.
This is especially important after wearing it on a warm or humid day.
Keeping it protected also reduces exposure to dust, strong outside odors, and constant airflow.
If the bracelet has been stored in a closed container for a while, you may notice the fragrance more clearly when you open it again.
That does not mean the bracelet has produced new fragrance.
The scent has simply been contained in a smaller space.
Should I Add Perfume or Essential Oil When the Scent Gets Softer?
We generally would not recommend it.
Adding fragrance oil, perfume, or essential oil directly to the beads may:
- Change the original scent
- Leave stains
- Affect the surface
- Introduce unwanted moisture or oil
- Make the original blend harder to smell
If you bought the bracelet for its original Hexiang fragrance, it is usually better to let that scent evolve on its own.
Keep Skincare and Chemicals Away From the Beads
Products you use every day can also leave residue on the surface.
Try to minimize direct contact with:
- Perfume
- Hand cream
- Sunscreen
- Alcohol
- Detergent
- Cleaning products
- Hair products
An easy routine is:
Apply your skincare, perfume, and cosmetics first. Let them settle. Then put on your Hexiang bracelet.
That keeps things simple.
What About Sweat?
Normal everyday wear is one thing.
A bracelet soaked in sweat during a workout is another.
For running, gym sessions, hot yoga, or other activities involving heavy perspiration, it is safer to take the bracelet off beforehand.
If you wear it on a hot day, let it rest somewhere dry and ventilated afterward.
Only return it to a closed container once it feels completely dry.
Avoid Too Much Friction
Hexiang beads are meant to be worn, but they do not need constant rubbing or polishing.
Repeated friction can gradually affect the surface.
It is also worth being careful when wearing them next to:
- Metal watches
- Heavy bracelets
- Hard gemstone jewelry
Constant knocking and rubbing can put unnecessary stress on the beads.
If you like bracelet stacks, giving your Hexiang bracelet a little breathing room is a good idea.
The 5 Rules to Remember1. Keep it dry.
2. Keep it away from heat.
3. Avoid chemicals.
4. Store it clean and dry.
5. Do not expect the scent to stay exactly the same.
